A Wrexham girl was picked from a crowd by Usain Bolt in the London Olympic Stadium and given his running spikes following his victory in the 200m Anniversary Games race yesterday.

Robyn Williams, aged 17 from Wrexham, told us yesterday how she had always been a lover of sport as a member of Wrexham Swimming Club and Athletics Clubs.

Explaining how she was inspired seeing Beijing Olympics and keen to see Bolt race live Robyn said, “Unfortunately I didn’t get tickets for Rio so when I found out Usain Bolt was running in London I just had to get tickets because I knew this would be my last opportunity to see him race.”

“Thankfully, I had seats right by the 200m start line and me and my best friend Lydia Thomas kept shouting ‘we love you Usain’ and he looked over and smiled. We were overwhelmed just by that!”

“On his lap of honour I yelled that I loved him at the top of my voice and he looked at me and pointed and when he did he threw his spikes directly at me. I’ve never been so grateful in all of my life.”

Robyn took the above picture of the running spikes, and tweeted it to Usain Bolt saying, “I am officially the luckiest girl on the planet and I will cherish these for the rest of my life ❤️❤️❤️”

Usain Bolt replied to Robyn, and his four million followers, to say “My pleasure”.

Robyn added, “I plan to keep them forever! They are priceless! I’ll pass them down the family for generations! Best day ever!”
