Ukash Scammers Target Jobseekers In Wrexham

Jobseekers in Wrexham are being targeted by a scam which requests Ukash payments for a CRB check after responding to a job advert online. Some job websites have listings for these scam job adverts, as well as Gumtree.

Ukash is a payment method where a payment voucher code is purchased and then redeemed. The payments are untraceable, and due to fears of fraud the issuing company has said “Each Ukash code is unique and like cash, must be kept safe and therefore never emailed or given to anyone else over the telephone.”

There is no record of a Jessica Noyes ( [email protected] ) nor a Multi O&J Limited existing, and we have seen copies of identical emails promising the same jobs around the country on the same dates from Cumbria to Essex and even for a five star hotel in London.

The scam emails that jobseekers could receive are below:

Good Evening,

We are glad to inform you that after carefully reviewing your CV for the position of General Assistant our company advertised, you have been selected to join our new team in Wrexham.
There will be a 2 day induction and training which will start on the 18th and end on the 20th of April 2013 from 10am to 1pm each day at Unit 7 Ash Road South, Wrexham Industrial Estate, Wrexham LL13 9UG
The two day training will be fully paid for and you are expected to come with your original documents;

Passport /Birth Certificate/ID card (showing your right to work in the UK)
N.I number
Bank/Building Society/Local Post Office details (for your wages)

The pay rate for your position will be £11,25 to £14.55 an hour, your shift pattern will be 12 hours a day, 5 days on and 2 days off, there is also Full time and Part time positions to choose from, there is morning shift ( 8am-8pm) and night shift (8pm- 8am) and you will be paid every forth night(two weeks).

The company will issue you a uniform on the induction/training day and you will be allocated the office site to work in Wrexham.

The mode of payment for your CRB check is Ukash.

As a result of recent Government changes to the vetting and barring scheme(VBS) the cost of Enhanced CRB check is £60.
Due to insurance purposes and our client’s policy we cannot accept CRB done outside the company.

The Ukash is a new safe and secure payment method that we use for effective payment of CRB fees.
The post office, newsagent shops and off licence top up shops with a Pay-point Pay-zone or e pay services can issue you a Ukash voucher for £60.The Ukash voucher 19 digits numbers is what we require you to email us back for your CRB payment fees and also to ensure that your job placement is still effective.
The CRB fees will only be refunded on your next wages if the report comes back satisfactory.

The deadline for the submission by email of your uniform sizes and £60 Ukash voucher numbers for your CRB fees will be on the 18 th of April 2013, no work placement will be offered without any of the above and you will not be eligible to come in for the two day training and induction.

When further information is requested the Ukash payment is requested:

“Good Morning,
Did you have good resume(cv), you are been accept for this job. I send all information about this jobs. The job it is full time/part-time. Let me know wich position you are available.It is 3 position more, first is need to check your CRB for see if you are clear your criminal record and for safety company.

If you are clear after to check i will call you if i received tomorow the copy the voucher,full name and d.o.b, for come to the interview (with your paper, proof, id etc.) is not necesary for send all paper via email.
Most important is the voucher for start to registration and process your details for start the job asap.

These emails take various forms, however the basic idea appears to be the same, to pressure someone into sending a Ukash voucher code through.
