Two people in the Wrexham area were arrested overnight on suspicion of drink driving.

PC Thomas Hough tweeted details about the incidents early this morning, with one man arrested
after driving to town drunk to pick his partner up.

He was arrested after blowing 94 – well above the legal limit of 35 micrograms of alcohol in 100 millilitres of breath.

A second man was later arrested “after being seen by officers swerving all over the road” after a roadside reading of 59.

North Wales Police are currently undertaking a month long campaign tackling those who get behind the wheel under the influence of drink or drugs over the festive period.

The campaign features officers from the North Wales Police Roads Policing Unit giving their own accounts of what it is like to deal with the aftermath of a collision involving a drink or drug driver.

This year’s message is “heavily focussed on asking people to make the right choice.”

Last year’s campaign saw 9,448 drivers breathalysed – with 95 tests either positive, failed or refused. There were also 63 drug related arrests made.

Between January 1st and November 25th 2018, North Wales Police have made 865 drink drive and 656 drug drive arrests.

Anybody who has concerns about anybody they believe to be driving under the influence are asked to contact police on 101 (or 999 if they are posing an imminent danger) or alternatively, contact Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
