Yesterday evening crowds gathered below the Pontcysyllte Aqueduct to see a very special audio & visual display.

The Acrefair Football Club pitch was used as the venue again this year for the ‘Underneath The Arches’ event, with a small fun fair at one end and a live music stage to the other:

The instructions of the night were to ‘bring something to sit on and then all you have to do is relax’, and the field was open early to allow people to do just that. Many brought picnics, hampers, deckchairs and the like, with a few crates of beer here and there plus there was the option to buy food – with sausages from Rhos!

As night fell the lights became easier to see on the 126 foot aqueduct, with flames jumping below the World Heritage Site at one point!

The evening ended with a special silent fireworks displayed, which is being claimed as a first for Wrexham! These were chosen to make sure the nearby livestock and pets were not alarmed or disturbed.

Going from the feedback from people around the event it was enjoyed by all, and with this tremendous weather it was a perfect evening perhaps not bettered in its 208 year history!
