Safety ‘Tree Works’ at Wrexham Cemetery Will be Undertaken Next Month
Safety work to remove the line of conifers along the railway line at the north end of Wrexham Cemetery will be undertaken during early February.
The cemetery on Ruabon Road is currently undergoing extensive improvements to restore the historic site.
Works being undertaken include the restoration of the Grade II chapels and lodge that have been closed to the public due to safety concerns. There will also be works to the grounds, paths, entrance areas and listed fencing which will improve access whilst retaining the gardenesque quality of the cemetery.
Restoration works will also take place on the Victorian section of the building and the refurbishment of the gates and fencing.
Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “The trees have become increasingly unstable and need to be removed. It is planned to create a hedge along the edge of the railway line in the winter of 2017 to help screen the edge of the cemetery site and provide a replacement landscape feature.”
