This afternoon a 5pm deadline for travellers camped on Alyn Waters to leave expired.

The first caravan was voluntary towed off the football field at 4:47pm. Other caravans were being hooked up to vehicles and elements of the camp were being cleared away as the deadline approached.

However, the process appeared to stop as the media present were confronted by someone from the camp who complained that pictures of children, vehicles and businesses would be taken and that there was no intention of leaving the site infront of cameras. A verbal legal threat and physical threat was also made.

At 5:30pm Police liaised with the travellers and media present (Wrexham.com, Daily Post, Leader and BBC) and an informal request was made for the media to leave the area, which all obliged.

Police survey the playing field as the deadline approached.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships and Collaboration, said late this afternoon: “Following the serving of the court order and with the help of council officers working with the police the Travellers have now started to leave the site. They are all expected to have left the site by this evening.

“If they all fail to leave the site the Council will bring in Bailiffs tomorrow.”
