Trading Standards have issued a warning amid reports a local resident lost over £120 after an unknown business requested their card details during a ‘cold call’.

Householders are being reminded to exercise great care if they are cold called by anyone saying they have a service to offer and requesting payment via bank card details.

The warning comes as a result of a recent complaint to Trading Standards which saw a Wrexham resident lose £125 after taking a phone call from a business offering to prevent cold callers.

It is reported that the business took a payment after card details were given – however the resident is now unsure what it is that have bought and cannot get through to the trader.

Advice from Trading Standards is to be extremely careful and think very hard before giving bank card details to anyone, particularly businesses that you do not know or have never done business with before.
