Town’s Spontaneous Applause for Serviceman
Today at 1pm several hundred people lined the High Street and surrounding areas for Guardsman Jamie Shadrake’s funeral service at St Giles.
Police, servicemen, traffic wardens and shop keepers all came to a standstill as the funeral procession made its way up Yorke St through High Street where it was welcomed with a guard of honour through the gates of St Giles.
Guardsman Jamie Shadrake’s family has said “Jamie was a tremendous son and brother. He was proud to be a soldier and died doing a job that he loved. We are all devastated by the loss of Jamie who was such a loving son and brother.”
As the procession neared St Giles spontaneous applause started in the crowd, and spread down the street.
The wake afterwards is being held in the Wynnstay Arms Hotel.
