Improvements into the fabric of the town centre are starting to be seen, with street lighting getting a glo up over the last week.

Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Environment and Transport, told us: “The ongoing street lighting painting work is carried out as part of our energy-saving efficiency project, which involved the replacement of the existing lighting units with more efficient LED lanterns.

“We are currently concentrating on units on Hope Street, Regent Street, Queens Street and Lord Street, which involves 53 units in total.”

“As well as refitting units, the lighting columns are being repainted as part of environmental improvements works in the town centre.”

The town centre should see new bins, new planters and even a section of new street paving during the programme of works.
