Wrexham Town Centre Police Officers have teamed up with Wrexham Council’s licensing and trading standards officers to work alongside licensed businesses in a campaign aimed at reducing crime and increasing public safety.

Throughout December officers will be speaking to taxi drivers, visiting licensees of pubs and clubs as well as shopkeepers and off licence proprietors.

The aim of the campaign is to make town licensees aware of their role in crime prevention as well as promoting ongoing partnership work, including the prevention of underage sales of alcohol, domestic violence, theft and the sale of stolen goods.

Officers have been engaging with the trades during all hours of operation, visiting premises and speaking to licensees working in their vehicles.

Joss Thomas, licensing team leader at Wrexham Council said “The campaign is a great example of the strong working partnership between the police, council and local businesses.

“We are very often aware that licensees and business owners can be our ‘eyes and ears’ on the street, they have the ability to look out for illegal activities and can play a key role in supporting the partnership, promoting public safety and assisting our campaigns.”

Sergeant Simon Williams, Wrexham Town centre added: “Prevention is a key component to delivering a safer neighbourhood for our communities and our strong working relationship with Wrexham Council continues through the month of December with a number of crime prevention initiatives”.
