Stand-up comedy and live music combination The Horne Section will kick off a new year of events at the William Aston Hall.

The group is gaining a burgeoning reputation for their live shows, the latest of which visits the Wrexham Glyndwr University venue on Friday January 27 2017.

At least nine more comedians have been announced to date at the William Aston Hall in 2017, including performances from Dave Spikey, Henning Wehn, Katy Brand and Andy Parsons. Shows from Sara Pascoe, Chris Ramsey and Jon Richardson will also feature.

There is a triple header of folk music courtesy of The Fureys, The Dublin Legends and The Unthanks.

Other music acts include the Ultimate Eagles and Cash (A Tribute to Johnny Cash) tribute bands, returning to Wrexham by popular demand, and Welsh operatic star Aled Jones.

Two pantomimes are among the event highlights in the early part of 2017. The Wrexham and District Pantomime Company’s version of Beauty and the Beast takes place over February Half Term, from Saturday 18 to Friday 24 February.

And Britain’s Got Talent Winners Ashleigh and Pudsey star alongside Bobby Davro in the Wizard of Oz on Sunday April 23.

2016 saw Wrexham Glyndwr University bring the biggest live music event for more than two decades to the town when the Stereophonics played at the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium in July.

Star comedian Jimmy Carr also returned to the William Aston Hall in October to perform two shows, among other highlights.

Mark Fleming, William Aston Hall venue manager, said: “Wrexham Glyndwr University is once again committed to bringing the very best in live comedy and music to audiences in North Wales in 2017.

“We always strive to offer a varied and diverse programme to cater for different tastes and this is borne out in the line-up of events already revealed. More big names and acts will be added to the bill as the year progresses.”

Tickets for all events are available to purchase online now at www.glyndwr.co.uk/events or from the Box Office on 0844 888 9991.
