The frontman of the legendary Welsh band Super Furry Animals has been unveiled as the first of a series of acts to perform at Wrexham’s newest music venue.

Gruff Rhys, also of the Mercury nominated outfit Neon Neon, will play a special full band show at The Live Rooms, Wrexham on Friday 7th December.

The show follows the release of Babelsberg earlier this year – Gruff’s fifth solo album, and his first record release on Rough Trade Records since 2007’s classic Candylion.

The album’s ten tracks were initially recorded in early 2016 in a whirlwind three day session. The band he gathered for the record were his regular drummer Kliph Scurlock (ex-Flaming Lips) and multi-instrumentalists Stephen Black (Sweet Baboo) and Osian Gwynedd.

Over the course of Babelsberg’s forty something minutes, Gruff manages to perfectly document our troubled and troubling times with humour, grace and always addictive melody.

In a career that’s spanned three decades, two languages, multiple bands, offshoots, collaborations and one boundless imagination, Babelsberg is arguably Gruff’s finest set of songs to date.

Gruff will take to the stage at the revamped Central Station in Wrexham as part of his tour across the US, Europe and the UK.

Earlier this week Wrexham.com reported that the iconic venue on Hill Street in the town centre will reopen to the public on October 13th under the new name The Live Rooms, Wrexham.

The work will also see a significant upgrade to the interior decor of the venue and the creation of an entirely new room; along with a brand new seated bar area as well as multipurpose nightclub and live spaces

Gruff Rhys will perform at The Live Rooms, Wrexham with his full band on Friday 7th December.

Tickets are on sale tomorrow, Thursday 20th September at 9am via focuswales.com/tickets
