Three Motorists Arrested Over Weekend – Including Woman Caught Driving Through Olly Murs Concert Road Closure
Three motorists were arrested in Wrexham over the weekend – including one woman who was caught driving through a road closure outside the Olly Murs concert whilst allegedly under the influence.
The 33-year-old woman was caught on the evening of Saturday 24th June after being spotted driving her car through a road closure that was situated outside the Racecourse. The road closure was in place on Mold Road at the time due to the Olly Murs concert.
She was eventually stopped as she didn’t have her lights on – she gave a positive breath test at the roadside and was arrested. The woman later failed to provide in police custody and was subsequently charged. She will be appearing before the town’s Magistrates on July 26th.
Two separate arrests were also made in the Wrexham area on Friday 23rd June.
A fail to stop on Friday afternoon saw a 22-year-old man being arrested and later charged. Tyrone Edwards, who is local to the area was remanded to appear before Wrexham Magistrates charged with dangerous driving, failing to stop, using a motor vehicle with no insurance and driving whilst disqualified.
Later that evening at 7:30pm a vehicle failed to stop for officers in the Wrexham area. The driver was later found and a 33-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of drug driving after he failed the roadside drugs test. He was also arrested on suspicion of a controlled drug and driving with no insurance. He was later released under investigation.
The arrests come as part of an ongoing road safety campaign by North Wales Police.
Inspector Dave Cust of the Roads Policing Unit said: “It is disappointing that we continue to see drink and drug drivers on our roads. Our dedicated patrols are working 24/7 to put the brakes on motorists who take to the roads whilst under the influence.
“We want people to know that if you make a conscious decision to get behind the wheel whilst under the influence of drink or drugs we will be waiting for you.”
The summer campaign continues and so far during June officers have made 66 drink drive and 49 drug drive arrests.
Inspector Cust added: “Dedicated Roads Policing patrols will continue across the region whereby officers will be enforcing the ‘Fatal 5’ offences. All of our campaigns are with the sole aim of attempting to reduce the number of serious collisions on our roads and are part of a continuing programme to improve road safety for all through engagement, education and enforcement where necessary.”
Anybody who may have concerns or information relating to the ‘Fatal 5’ offences are encouraged to contact the Roads Policing Unit on 101 or via Crimestoppers anonymously on 0800 555 111.
