Thousands Expected For Olly Murs Concert – Road Closures and Park & Ride Details Released

Thousands of music fans are expected to descend on Wrexham this weekend – with pop star Olly Murs performing at the Racecourse.

The ‘Troublemaker’ singer will take to the Racecourse stage on Saturday 24th June as part of his UK-wide summer tour. He will be joined by fellow X Factor star Louisa Johnson.

The event will be hosted by Wrexham AFC, alongside promoters and partners LHG Live and Orchard Entertainment.

Ahead of the concert, residents and visitors are advised of arrangements for highways and parking on the day, so as to minimise disruption.

Between 3pm and and 9:45pm Mold Road (immediately outside the Racecourse) will be one-way, with all inbound traffic to be diverted or directed along alternative routes. The road will be one-way between the B&Q roundabout and Station Approach.

The road will be fully closed from 9:45pm while the stadium is emptied, with access for residents controlled by traffic operatives during that time. Mold Road outside the Racecourse will be closed completely at 9:45pm while the stadium is emptied

Those attending the event are advised to park at Wrexham Glyndwr University, at a (prepaid) cost of £5. Prepaid parking will also be available on Crispin Lane. Pay-on-the-day parking will be available at the nearby Plas Coch School.

A Park and Ride service will also be made available at the Council’s Ruthin Road offices from 4pm until midnight, also at a cost of £5 per car.

Gates will open at 5pm, with the show ending at 10pm. The Box Office, located in the lobby of the 1864 Suite, will be open from 12pm until 8:30pm.

Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships Public Protection and Community Safety at Wrexham Council, said: “Together with partners at North Wales Police and Wrexham AFC, want to ensure this event is a fun one for all involved and builds on the success of recent gigs at the Racecourse, including UB40 last month and the Stereophonics last year.

“We also want to ensure it remains safe and causes as little disruption as possible to residents and gig-goers alike, and that’s why we want to advise people of those roads likely to be busy on the day, and advise them to seek alternate routes if they’re not attending the gig.

“I want to thank all those who’ve taken part in organising this event, and hope it adds to Wrexham’s growing reputation as a welcoming host for an increasing number of large-scale summer events.”

Fans are advised to leave plenty of time to arrive at the venue with bag checks and security checks in place on entrance to the stadium. Fans are reminded of the ticket terms and conditions which can be found on the My Racecourse site.

Work on the stage and other equipment will begin on Tuesday, June 20, with setup and rigging work likely to take place throughout the week between 8am and 8pm.

Equipment will be taken down on Sunday, June 25 – again between 8am and 8pm – with the venue cleared on Monday, June 26.
