Thousands Attend Annual ‘Erddig Apple Festival’
Thousands flocked to Erddig this weekend to take part in the annual Apple Festival celebrations.
When Wrexham.com visited the festival yesterday, it could easily have been mistaken for a mid summer’s day, with families setting up picnics and deckchairs across the ground to take in the glorious weather and event entertainment.
The Erddig Apple Festival has become a landmark event in the ground’s calendar, offering a weekend of events and activities centred around the 180 varieties of apples grown at the stately home.
This year marked the 25th anniversary of the Erddig Apple Festival, a landmark anniversary which has seen the event grow from a small event to one that takes places across the grounds of Erddig.
Across there were a whole range of tasty apple treats for guests to sample – including homemade jams and preservatives, apple cider, pork sandwiches with apple sauce, toffee apples and of course a whole range of hand picked apples fresh from Erddig’s very own orchards.
For those who paid a visit to the popular Erddig House throughout the day also had the chance to purchase a small booklet filled with apple based ideas and suggestions for tasty recipes.
Also on offer throughout the day were Punch and Judy shows, live music, a brass band, cookery demonstrations and even a magician to keep the crowds entertained.
A number of stallholders selling homemade produce were also on hand across the weekend – including a stall showcasing the finalists of the Erddig Apple Challenge which took place in eateries across Wrexham throughout September.
Of course the star of the weekend was the wonderful display of apples, and there was plenty on offer for people to sample and buy. Inside the Erddig barn there was a rather impressive display of apples, along with advice on which are the best to cook with etc (one of us had apples specifically picked for a certain recipe, you can’t get more fresh than that!)
