Meet Doris, Blessing, and Wheely Good Sheep – who have all arrived in Wrexham Town Centre in the early hours of today!

To celebrate the Aviva Tour of Britain cycle race finish in Wrexham Town Centre on Sunday 6th September 2015, some new woolly residents of the town have decided to get the best viewpoint on St Giles Way and will be grazing here for the next few months.

To greet the arrival of the cyclists, three of the sheep asked Borras Park Junior School, Victoria Park Infant & Junior School and Rhosddu Primary School to give them a quirky look and the children came up with some snazzy designs! Two other sheep which will appear very soon are currently being given their super cool cycling-themed look by artists at Oriel Wrecsam’s Saturday Art Club and Champion’s House Young People’s Project.

The sheep are very friendly, apparently like having their photograph taken and if they’re given a little love by the people of Wrexham – we may see them around town again in the future, possibly with more siblings in tow!

Jo Marsh, Learning & Engagement officer at the Oriel Wrecsam Art Gallery on Chester Street said: “The project has been great, as not only have we been able to develop some really creative workshops with local junior schools, but we’ve also been able to have a little fun in doing something out of the ordinary to celebrate a major event like to Tour of Britain finishing in the town centre”.

Joe Bickerton, Destination Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council said: “Having the Tour of Britain finish in Wrexham Town Centre this year is a great bonus for the town and our new resident sheep are just a part of the activity planned over the next three weeks.

“We’re working really closely with as many partners and businesses in town as we can so that the area is vibrant and welcoming for the large crowds that we expect on the weekend of 5th and 6th September.

If you’re in town over the next few weeks, share your photos of the sheep using the hashtags #AvivaToB2015 and #WrexhamSheep !
