Techniquest Invite You To Wrexham Astronomy Club
Regular readers of Wrexham.com will know we like looking upwards, and so news of Techniquest’s monthly Astronomy Club means we can meteor like minded people!
Techniquest Glyndwr (TQG) held its first Astronomy Club session on Saturday 19th October at Techniquest Glyndwr (TQG) and 45 people checked in to see what the night sky had to offer.
With some visitors bringing their own telescopes and other equipment provided by TQG for people to use, clear views of the moon were available to all on a clear night sky over Wrexham, with the space station tracking across the sky during the evening.
TQG is inviting budding astronomers young and old to come along to the monthly Astronomy Club Sessions being held on Saturday evenings through to March 2014. The club meets at the TQG Discovery Centre on the Glyndwr University Campus in Wrexham. The club will appeal to both novices as well as experienced stargazers and provides plenty of opportunities to find out about various astronomical events occurring over the next few months. There will be talks and chances to view the night sky through telescopes – and on cloudy nights the astrodome will be available to show the arrangements of the stars and how they change from month to month.
TQG presenter Rob said “perhaps one of the most spectacular stellar events we will be witnessing during the club sessions will be the Geminid meteor shower in December which, at its peak, you can expect to see around one meteor a minute. You will also be able to see the Comet ISON in November”
He continued “We are pitching our sessions to appeal to complete beginners as well as those who are experienced astronomers and to people of all ages. I hope we will be able to enthuse a whole new crowd of people to enjoy the ever changing spectacular star display in our night skies.”
The Astronomy Club runs monthly on Saturdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm starting on 19th October and running monthly through to March 2014.
