Techniquest Glyndŵr’s new season of Astronomy Club is set to start this weekend and all are welcome.

All is now ready for Techniquest Glyndŵr’s first Astronomy Club session of this season on Saturday. The Staff Team at Techniquest Glyndŵr (TQG) have been preparing over the past few weeks an exciting programme for the public to have a taste of real life Astronomy. The first session will be starting at 6.30 pm at the popular Science Discovery Centre in Wrexham, finishing at 8.30 pm

This first session is called “Introduction to Astronomy” and is aimed at people of all ages who are interested in Astronomy.

Matt Thomas, the TQG presenter coordinating the session said: “We have lined up a really full evening of activities for everyone at this first Astronomy Club of the season. There will be telescopes set up outside for people to try, we have StarDome Planetarium shows lined up during the evening as well as live science shows covering some of the basics of astronomy.

“And for our younger visitors we will be offering astronomy based craft activities where they will be able to produce unusual items to take away.

“For those who are more knowledgeable or experienced we will have expert astronomers on hand to give advice on how you can set up your telescope, and, if you bring your telescope along will help you to set it up to look at the night sky.

“I hope we will be able to enthuse a whole new crowd of people to enjoy the ever changing spectacular star display in our night skies.”

“The StarDome show will take visitors on a journey through the night sky showing details of the Moon and a lot of the stars and planets easily visible in the night sky in Wrexham.
Mike Corcoran, a physicist from the TQG Team, will be delivering the science show during the evening covering some of the basic principles of Astronomy and we have also lined up a sweepstake prize competition for the Club session based on an astronomy challenge question.

Mandy Jones, TQG’s Operations Manager said: “We have found that the Astronomy Club is really popular with families because it offers a really good introduction to Astronomy, yet, because we have expert amateur astronomers at every session it is also interesting for those who are more advanced astronomers to explore.

As a special offer we are pleased to offer a loyalty scheme to everyone that comes to this first session. Anyone that comes to the first five sessions of the Astronomy Club will be able to attend the sixth Club Session entirely free.”

TQG is inviting budding astronomers young and old to come along to the monthly Astronomy Club Sessions being held on Saturday evenings through to March 2015 from 6.30 pm to 8.30 pm. The club meets at the TQG Discovery Centre on the Glyndwr University Campus in Wrexham.

The club will appeal to both novices as well as experienced stargazers and provides plenty of opportunities to find out about various astronomical events occurring over the next few months. There will be talks and chances to view the night sky through telescopes – and on cloudy nights the StarDome Planetarium will be available to show the arrangements of the stars and how they change from month to month.

The Astronomy Club runs monthly on Saturdays from 6.30pm to 8.30pm starting on 18th October and running monthly through to March 2015.

The next sessions planned include :
Saturday, 15th November 2013 – 6.30pm – 8.30pm
Astronaut Training
Saturday, 13th December 2013 – 6.30pm – 8.30pm
The Gemenids Meteor Shower
