Wrexham’s new arts, markets and cultural space will play host to a table top sale and day of activities this weekend – which is also the first time the centre will be open on a Sunday, contrary to the approved business plan.

Members of the public looking to grab a bargain or sell some unwanted goods can hire a table at the event, which will take place at Tŷ Pawb on Sunday 13th May.

There will also be live music in the afternoon and refreshments available throughout the day – along with the Tŷ Pawb market stalls and food courts being open.

It will be the first time Tŷ Pawb has opened to the public on a Sunday, making this week its first full seven days of trading in a row.

Wrexham.com had been told that elements of the centre were to be closed, however Cllr Hugh Jones, Lead Member for Communities, Partnerships, Public Protection and Community Safety, has confirmed Tŷ Pawb will be fully open. We asked if there were any details as to why it has been closed previously.

Cllr Jones told us: “We were able to open most of Tŷ Pawb’s services to the public on Bank Holiday Monday, including Markets, Food Court and Car Park.

“We can confirm all of Tŷ Pawb, including the Gallery and Siop//Shop will be open this coming Sunday (subject to Sunday trading hours) when we will be holding the Table Top Sale event and live entertainment in the afternoon.”

“The plan is for Tŷ Pawb (including the Siop//Shop and Gallery) to be open every Sunday and Bank Holiday and we are continuing our consultation with traders to help us move into a position to be able to start doing this within the next few months.”

The Fourth Street business plan (PDF here) notes that opening of the then ‘OW Facility’, now Tŷ Pawb, will be 363 days a year operation – only being closed Christmas and Boxing Day.  There is a note that states the public opening hours were modelled at being 10am-6pm five days a week, but also 10am-10pm two days a week. In December Cllr Hugh Jones, said this original business plan was still being followed, a position consistently held.

Leader of the Council, Cllr Mark Pritchard, said of Sunday’s event: “The table top sale promises to be another busy day at Tŷ Pawb.

“For many people, weekends are an ideal time to get out and about so I’m delighted that we’re offering a Sunday full of activities.

“Live music will follow the table top sale and our markets and food court will be open so I hope it will be a very enjoyable event.”

Those interested in selling items at the event can book a large table for £10, or a small table for £5. Sellers are advised to arrive at 8am to set up with the sale itself starting at 9am.
