Survey Reveals Students At Glyndwr Are Satisfied With The University

Statistics revealed by the 2013 National Student Survey have shown that Glyndwr University has seen a 5% increase in overall student satisfaction to 82%.

The UK’s leading student study also revealed several courses at Glyndŵr achieved a staggering 100% satisfaction rate: Fine Art, Education and Childhood Studies, Learning Support: Teaching and Learning, Families and Childhood Studies, and Occupational Therapy.

And more students in these areas were satisfied than the previous year: Art & Design, Biology & Environment, Communications, Computing, Sport & Exercise Science, Psychology, Humanities, Business & Management, Applied Social Sciences.

Despite celebrating its fifth anniversary just weeks ago, Glyndŵr University is outperforming many of its rivals and was above the Wales average in these categories – academic support, personal development, practice placements, and assessment and feedback.

Students were asked a total of 22 questions on a range of issues, from the facilities provided to the level of communication and feedback from teachers.

Pro-Vice Chancellor, Professor Helen James was delighted with the results and thanked staff and students for helping the Wrexham institution to its best ever NSS results.

“The 5% rise in student satisfaction is fantastic news and tribute to the hard work and dedication of everyone here at the University,” she said.

“These results prove that we’re moving in the right direction and having so many courses deliver 100% student satisfaction is also pleasing, as well as increases across almost every subject. It’s tremendous news.”

President of the Students’ Guild, Luke Murphy, added: “It’s great to see student satisfaction improving across the board, and a testament to the work put in by the University and the Students’ Guild all year round.

“On behalf of the newly elected Students’ Guild Officers I can promise that we’re already working hard to ensure that this only continues to improve: our European Summer School recently enjoyed its most successful events programme to date, Freshers’ Week is shaping up to be bigger and better than ever and new students are going to enjoy more opportunities to participate in sports, to join clubs and societies, and to get involved with projects out in the community than ever before.

“The NSS is a great indicator that our hard work is paying off.”

Head of Fine Art, John McClenaghan, was thrilled to see his department achieve a perfect score but said the task now was to maintain standards and improve even further.
“The Fine Art team is delighted to have received such positive feedback from our students in the NSS,” he said.

“It is recognition of the efforts of staff and students working together to create a stimulating and dynamic learning environment, and in many cases a life-changing experience.  

“We also believe that it is important to educate Fine Art students in a way that encourages them to recognise their own unique skills and how best to apply them within the context of employment.”

The University’s NSS success is a shot in the arm ahead of Saturday’s Open Day, when up to 300 people are expected to descend on the Mold Road campus to find out more about what’s on offer from September.
