A new facility aimed at supporting people with learning difficulties has been officially opened by Wrexham Assembly Member Lesley Griffiths.

Ty Brian, located at the site of the former Green Dragon pub on Salop Road, is a recently converted residential home operated by Summit Care Services.

The 6-bedded facility will provide specialist residential care to individuals with mental health illnesses, including mild learning disability or Autistic Spectrum Disorder.

Ty Brian offers supported accommodation specifically to individuals stepping down from inpatient care, who are ultimately aiming towards living independently.

After the need for these types of facilities in North Wales was identified, local clinicians agreed Wrexham was the appropriate location for such a step-down service. The new home is close to the town centre, ideal for the residents to access social, recreational and educational activities.

Summit Care Services is registered with Care and Social Services Inspectorate Wales (CSSIW) and has recruited an experienced team to run Ty Brian, providing 13 high-quality jobs for local people.

After opening the facility, Wrexham AM Ms Griffiths said:

“Many individuals from Wrexham, as well as the surrounding areas, will benefit from the service provided by Ty Brian on their journey towards independent living.”

“The facility offers residents continuity and a sense of belonging that will help meet their needs, expectations and aspirations.”
