Eighteen horses have been rescued from floods in Bangor on Dee this afternoon.

We are told the horses were in a field close to the Royal Oak pub, on slightly higher ground.

Concern for the horses grew through the day with the RSPCA attending the incident. We are told it was thought if machinery or noisy boats were used to attempt a rescue there was a worry that could scare the horses into the main river.

With the flood and fast flowing river there was also concern over human life on any rescue attempt.

Rafters from Llangollen responded to a request for help with a small group wading over and then guiding the horses back to drier land.

Sadly one horse was described as ‘lost’ out of the nineteen that were stranded.

Earlier we reported how unusually high river levels had been recorded over the last 24 hours with a peak expected today causing nearby flooding, and flood warnings.
