A newly reopened car park in the town centre has been criticised after large amounts of waste and drugs paraphernalia were found in the stairwells by customers.

In September 2018 Wrexham.com reported that the car park was due to open under new ownership, offering the ‘cheapest parking tariffs in town’.

The car park is currently managed on behalf of the owners by ParkingEye.

However over the past few days there have been a series of complaints about waste found in the car park’s stairwells – with discarded items including bedding, clothing, cigarette butts and apparent drugs litter. One resident who sent us images said: “This is not acceptable when people with children park here”, and others highly critical of the new operators of the carpark.

Yesterday town centre police officers also conducted patrols inside and at the rear of the car park following the complaints of antisocial behaviour.

A spokesperson for the company said: “ParkingEye has recently taken over the management of this car park and we are supporting the owners as they seek to improve the facilities. The council has also been informed about ongoing problems.”

Cllr David A Bithell, lead member for environment and transport, said: “St Mark’s car park is operated privately. I, too, have raised concerns today following posts regarding this matter on social media, and I have raised the matter with our Community Safety Team to liaise with the police and Town Centre staff – clearly, this is not acceptable.”
