At 10:15pm tonight the beacon was lit on top of the Parish Church to celebrate the Queens jubilee.

This picture may look like lego men with fire, but it was infact firemen igniting the flame:

The torch stayed alight until the church bells chimed at 11pm and was lit by Deputy Mayor of Wrexham and Rhosddu Cllr David Bithell who is a Watch Manager at Wrexham Fire Station.

Garden Village Councillor Andy Williams who is Crew Manager at Wrexham Fire Station sent in the pictures above and below. Below is his son Luke Williams from Darland School on St Giles roof with the beacon.

We also created this panorama image while the beacon was lit, you can click here for the massive version – be warned it is about 3 megabytes big!

We were trying to run a live webcam (below) pointed at the church however by around 10pm the sheer volume of traffic to the site made it stop working! We do have pictures from the live feed below:

Tomorrow ( Bank Holiday Tuesday ) there will be a jubilee party held from 2pm in the grounds of St Giles. Further information on that and other jubilee events can be found on our jubilee guide.
