Wrexham’s Pontcysyllte Aqueduct is set to be illuminated in a colourful display next month as part of the popular ‘Underneath the Arches’ summer event.

The Underneath the Arches music and light spectacle which takes place at Pontcysyllte has become a staple calender event in recent years, with thousands attending the aqueduct each year to enjoy the event.

This year, Underneath the Arches will take place on the evening of Friday 10th July 2015 and will be hosted by Spence & Rachael from the Heart FM Breakfast show. The event will feature live music from great local bands, and an impressive firework spectacle and light display.

Throughout the evening of events, there will be entertainment all over the field including small fairground rides. As darkness approaches the aqueduct will be bathed in stunning lighting, searchlights and lasers before the firework finale over the aqueduct at approximately 11pm – so make sure you have your cameras at the ready!

This year’s event will once again raise vital funds for Nightingale House Hospice and the Destination Wrexham Partnership and Wrexham County Borough Council are proud to support such a worthy local cause.

Margaret Hollings, Income Generation Manager at Nightingale House said: “Last year, the £5,000 raised for the hospice via Underneath the Arches was enough to fund sixteen children through the hospices ‘release’ programme which offers an eight week programme for bereavement support during crisis.

“As a hospice, although our main focus is on raising vital funds, we are also committed to working with the Destination Wrexham team to bring events to the County which will create a real buzz of excitement for visitors and the local communities.”

The general rule for the event is to bring some friends, a picnic, a camera and settle down for an evening of great live entertainment, stunning scenery and a fantastic time.

Joe Bickerton, Destination Manager at Wrexham County Borough Council added: “Underneath the Arches has become one of the cornerstone events in the Wrexham events calendar. Although the site is spectacular, it does present challenges being out in the countryside – but the feedback from the public has really helped us develop the event year on year.

“The night aims to not only celebrate our fantastic World Heritage Site, but bring together the local communities and the tourists heading to North East Wales, many of whom are also visiting the Llangollen International Eisteddfod that week too. This year, we’ve a few surprises up our sleeves, so bring your cameras as it will be a spectacle to remember.”

Tickets are flying out for this year’s event with 3,000 tickets already sold and organisers fully anticipate the event selling out.

Tickets cost £10 for adults and £5 for under-16’s. Children under 3 years of age go free.

It’s important to remember that this year, tickets can only be obtained in advance and no tickets will be available on the gate. Therefore, to avoid disappointment, the organisers are encouraging that tickets are either booked online via www.underthearches.co.uk or by calling 01978 292015 (Mon-Fri 10am – 4pm). Tickets can also be purchased by visiting the Wrexham Tourist Information Centre, Nightingale House Hospice, The Tea Rooms Chirk and Trevor Basin Visitor Centre.
