Some roads ‘treacherous’ after overnight freeze

There are widespread reports of black ice on roads and pavements in the area this morning – with some incidents reported thought to be connected to the freeze.

Kevin tweeted us to ask Wrexham Council to ‘spread the salt’, “Crash on Llay New road and People’s Market ramp icy cars spinning up it, barrier wasn’t working either, joke”, whereas Darren posted: “Well done to WBC the gritters were out twice in the afternoon and early hours. Everyone is quick enough to slag you off but a massive thank you.”

Cai sent us the top picture saying the vehicle ‘crashed straight into lamppost on Rhosddu Road’.

Gavin told the roads were ‘lethal’ due to black ice: “Lea Road in wrexham is covered in black ice. Parents dropping off children for St Mary’s be careful in your cars.”

We are also told of accidents on Smithfield Road, and Brook Street.

The issues started late last night when the area had a dusting of snow on top of already freezing rain:
