Slugs have been blamed for putting a set of traffic lights in Wrexham out of action.

It’s believed the slimy intruders crawled inside the pedestrian crossing near Rhosddu Park early last month, causing major damage to the control board.

Local councillor Marc Jones said the issue had been raised with Wrexham Council because of the risk to people trying to cross Rhosddu Road, but had not yet been fixed.

However, he said it was understood repairs would be carried out in the near future following the delivery of replacement parts.

Cllr Jones said: “The pedestrian crossing on Rhosddu Road has been out of action since the start of December. I’ve been chasing the council to repair it because it’s such a busy road for people to cross safely.

“The controller was seriously damaged by slugs and the council was unable to complete all the repairs before the Christmas break.

“I’m told a new power supply has been ordered for the site and repairs should be complete very soon.”

Cllr Jones published the top image, believed to be the damage inside the lights systems.

He added, “The message was that a repair was due very soon but, if there is going to be further delay, I’ve asked for a temporary solution.”
