Glyndwr University, the owners of Wrexham FC’s Racecourse home, have submitted proposals to add more signage to the ground.

We have previously written about the rebranding of the ground and the new signage on the Mold Road side here, plus the addition of three badges on the Mold Rd stand here.

The new application would see new signage, stated as ‘Crusaders Signs’ related in the documents submitted to the Council, appear on two ends of the Mold Rd stand and Crispin Lane end of the ‘Yale’ stand. It is likely the signage will be related to the forthcoming Rugby World Cup rather than the Crusaders specifically.

The iconic fixture board will also have a subtle change, allowing space at the bottom for match sponsors to be listed.

The Student Development

The pictures submitted to the planning department show the wasteland that has developed at the back of the Kop end of the Racecourse, with the lack of further development. We wrote last July how the current student flats have not had the landscaping that was promised – you can read about that here.

Above was a mock up of how the development was promised to pan out, however it has not.

Previous Wrexham FC and Racecourse ground owners, ‘businessmen’ Geoff Moss from Farndon and Ian Roberts from Ruthin based ‘Roberts Homes’ generously sold the carpark of the club to a company they themselves owned to develop student flats on, sold the Racecourse ground itself to Glyndwr University and sold the loss making club to fans group Wrexham Supporters Trust (WST) for £1. Prior to their takeover the club owned the freehold to the carpark, the ground and was being run at a break even point under administration.

At the time of the student flats development fans were given promises that all revenue raised would be ‘safeguarded to go back into the club’. There is currently no ongoing benefit from the flats to the club, with revenues estimated at around £30,000 per week based off Glyndwr’s official website figures.

The Racecourse Ground is now owned by Glyndwr University, who have agreed a licence (not lease) with Wrexham Football Club for 25 years – with currently 24 years remaining – for use of the ground and the Colliers Park training ground.
