Refurbishment works at the Wrexham Library have seen the opening of a new ‘secret garden cafe’ and an improved and modernised foyer area for visitors.

The changes mean that users who are short of time can now quickly and easily return a new book, choose a new read,
recharge their devices or pick up a book they have previously reserved.

New display cabinets have been installed that include separate sections for all the new biographies, hobbies, lifestyle, travel, children’s books and new fiction.

There’s also a “Quick Choice” to help you if you haven’t got too much time to browse the huge selection on offer in the whole library; along with a section dedicated to all things Welsh.

The revamp has also seen new graphics installed on the toilets – including a quote from Doctor Who (toilets are indeed bigger on the inside).

A new coffee shop – The Secret Garden – has also opened its doors to the public in the library.

Selling Welsh themed items, delicious homemade cakes and many other tasty treats, it’s unlikely the cafe will stay secret for long! You can even take out a coffee to enjoy whilst taking advantage of the new look library.

Owners Tom and Cath said: “The new look for the library is a welcome investment and we look forward to seeing how it’s put to good use for the Wrexham community.

“The Secret Garden cafe; located directly ahead of the foyer area is now up and running and we’ve been happy to welcome many customers already.”

They added: “We offer a range of menu items both to eat in or take away, including Welsh themed menus items which are proving to be very popular, jacket potatoes, paninis, sandwiches and homemade soups and cakes etc, we have a wide range of hot and cold drinks available.

“We also have a Facebook page for enquiries and we’re looking forward to what we hope will be a busy Spring/Summer as the cafe gains a strong customer base.”

Cllr Hugh Jones, lead member for communities, partnerships, public protection and community safety, said: “The library is very popular and making use of space is very important. It’s also made it very useful to be able to drop in and re-charge your devices whilst taking advantage of quick access to all the latest reads.

Shan Cooper, libraries lead, added: “The library is always looking at ways to improve the service it offers to visitors and extending into the Foyer area made perfect sense. Visitors are already commenting on how welcoming it is and are making good use of the recharging station.

Friendly staff are always on hand to help and advise so why not visit your new look library the next time you’re in town. It’s open 9am – 6pm Monday to Friday and 9am – 4pm on Saturdays.
