Saith Seren is re-launching its food menu on Monday in a new venture with Coleg Cambria’s Rendezvous restaurant.

The Wrexham community-run cooperative café bar is open for food every weekday lunchtime between 11.30-2.30pm and will be offering fresh, locally sourced produce that will be served and plated by the college catering students, who do work placements as part of their training.

Marc Jones, who chairs the Saith Seren cooperative, said: “We have recruited an experienced local chef to work in our kitchen, who is also a graduate of the Coleg Cambria catering department, and I’m delighted with the cooperation we’ve received from the college in relaunching the menu. As a community-based organisation, it’s important we provide job and training opportunities for youngsters.

“We had a fantastic taster session earlier this week that showcased the wonderful food on offer and also showed how professional and enthusiastic the students were.

“Our emphasis is on locally sourced Welsh produce and the college’s catering department has worked hard with us to produce a menu that reflects that. One outstanding offer is an afternoon tea with sandwiches, wraps and home-made cakes.”

Rhiannon Ballinger, a lecturer in Coleg Cambria’s catering department, added: “At Coleg Cambria we are delighted to work on projects in the community such as this one with the Saith Seren. It’s a great opportunity for our students to work in a live situation and experience creating menus and dealing with customers. We are also pleased that one of our ex- students has been appointed as head chef and look forward to working with him in the future.”
