Road Damaged By Landslip To Permanently Close
A village road that was left damaged following a landslip six years ago is to close permanently.
Queen’s Road in Brymbo was closed back in 2008 following a landslip and has since been closed due to health and safety concerns remained closed for the protection of the public.
However the road is to remain permanently closed following a decision made by members of the Executive Board on Tuesday.
Speaking about the decision to close the road, Lead Member for Environment and Public Protection Cllr David Bithell said: “There are ongoing issues concerning Queens Road Brymbo, which is currently closed to traffic following a localised landslip in 2008.
“Following the closure a number of structural and traffic / remedial measures were implemented to mitigate for the potential of further deterioration of highway and to protect the public from harm.”
Cllr Bithell added that a number of reports had been commissioned over the years to identify options to reopen the land for public used, however a stopping order to close the road permanently is to be implemented instead.
In total the cost of the remedial work on the road is estimated to be in the region of £450,000.
Also recommended in the report is the opening of the nearby Station Road to two way traffic to help ease congestion.
Speaking about the report, local member for Brymbo Cllr Paul Rogers noted he was pleased the council was looking to take action on the issues, adding that residents of Green Road and Clayton Road have suffered ‘significantly’ as a result of the road closure.
Cllr Rogers also queried if the site will be made ‘good’ as the road is currently an eyesore to the neighbouring residents.
The meeting was told that work would be undertaken to make Queens Road safer.
