A reminder of road closures and the park and ride service available has been issued ahead of Wrexham’s largest music event in over 30 years.

Around 20,000 people are expected to descend on Wrexham throughout Saturday for the sell-out Stereophonics concert at the Glyndwr University Racecourse Stadium

Given the scale of the event, police in Wrexham are again reminding residents, visitors and especially motorists to make plans to avoid getting caught up in traffic.

Between 1pm and 9:45pm on the day of the event, Mold Road will be one-way for out of town traffic. All inbound traffic must use alternative and diverted routes into the town.

There will also be a full closure of the Mold Road from 9.45pm while the stadium is emptying, although residents on neighbouring residential streets will continue to have access.

During the full closure, Central Road emerging from Central Retail Park (near Dunelm Mill) will be coned to one lane and traffic will be directed into Regent Street towards town.

Crispin Lane will be closed at the access to the rear of the stadium.

With regards to accessing the event, a park and ride service will be in place between the Council’s offices on Ruthin Road and the stadium.

Coaches to the event will be directed through town, via Ruthin Road or Chester Road. The coaches will be allowed to drop off on the inbound side of Mold Road before re-joining the outbound carriageway.

Signs will be in place to direct concert-goers to appropriate car parks or the Park and Ride facility.

Residents will also have to access the roads opposite the stadium via the town centre.

Supt Alex Goss said; “With such large numbers of people coming to town it is important that concert goers, motorists, shoppers and residents are aware of the traffic arrangements drawn up by the organisers and the council.

“The better everyone is informed, the easier it will be to avoid congestion and disruption.”
