A new public information office in Wrexham Bus Station has been formally opened this lunchtime.

In February it was announced that the vacant information office was to reopen after The Skiers Lodge Ltd (TSL) – who operate easyBus and easyCoach – had been awarded a three year contract to operate the facility on behalf of Wrexham Council.

Today saw the official reopening of the information office, with Lead Member for Environment and Transport, Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for Economic Regeneration, Cllr Terry Evans and TSL owner, Andrew Martin on hand to cut the ribbon to the to centre.

Cllr Bithell spoke to us about the opening of the ‘impressive’ facility, also noting that most of the retail units in the bus station are now full.

Cllr Bithell also said there is a further six figure bid for cash from Welsh Government to help with improvements, and also mentioned how it is the ‘start of rebuilding’ the bus service and integration with any future ‘North Wales Metro’.

Wrexham bus station’s information office will now be open six days a week, from Monday to Saturday between the hours of 08:00am to 6:00pm and closed for a short lunch break between 12:45pm – 13:15 pm each day.

The opening of the office is one of series of improvements to have taken place at the bus station in recent months, with a £73,000 Welsh Government grant and the council’s budget helping fund the installation of new LED writing, aesthetic changes and new netting to keep pigeons out of the building.

Speaking today at the launch of the information office, Cllr David A Bithell, Lead Member for the Environment and Transport, said: “The bus station is a very important part of the first impression to visitors into Wrexham when they arrive here so it is essential we make sure it is user friendly, clean and an overall pleasant place to arrive.

“I am very pleased to welcome TSL on board with us to staff the Office and to provide visitors with information on transport available, arrivals and departures and directing people to other council and visitor services in the town centre.”

TSL Owner, Andrew Martin, added: “Our team has a longstanding experience of providing great value-for-money services to bus users both in the UK, Switzerland, and France over the last 15 years and we are excited to be working together with Wrexham Council on this new project.

“The re-opening of the bus information office, together with the regeneration of the bus station facilities, is good news for bus users in Wrexham and we are pleased to be providing this much-needed service”.

TSL currently operate the ‘easyBus’ bus service from Wrexham to both Manchester and Liverpool Airports on behalf of Stelios and the easyGroup. This service has been operating daily since October 2016 with fares starting from £4.99 one way. TSL also operate the 64 bus service from Ceiriog DC to Llangollen under the ‘easyCoach’ brand.
