Last August we reported how Glyndwr University submitted plans for a large housing development in New Broughton, with revised plans lodged last month.

The development is amongst several to have been submitted to Wrexham Council as part of its major plans to redevelop its Plas Coch campus. It is proposed that the land off Gatewen Road, New Broughton and playing fields on Dean Road, Rhosnesni are both sold off for housing developments to as part of ‘enabling developments’ to help fund the university’s £60 million ‘Campus 2025’ project.

The land at Gatewen Road is described as “informal grazing land” which is “almost completely surrounded by existing residential properties.”

It is proposed that up to 112 houses are developed on the site, including 28 affordable units.

This week we have been told that revised plans had been submitted a few weeks ago in mid-May, and the University are awaiting feedback on them.

Wrexham Glyndwr University Vice-Chancellor, Maria Hinfelaar told us: “We have worked with the local community, council and other stakeholders to ensure our submitted planning applications take everyone’s feedback into account. Our original proposals have been revised across several of our applications based on feedback from the council, highways and other local stakeholders before being finalised in recent weeks to ensure that they are compliant.

“They will be considered by the planning committee in July.”

“Our Campus 2025 strategy is about the university and Wrexham as a whole – for the future prosperity of the town. It is for everyone living, working or studying in Wrexham; there is a great economic and social advantage to having a successful university and investment into our university will bring more students which will help to attract and retain talent to the region.

“We’re a university of and for the community and Campus 2025 is the future landscape of Wrexham as well as our future and ambition.”
