Residents are being asked to help keep their elderly neighbours and residents safe and report suspicious activity following a series of burglaries.

It comes after thieves targeted a number of elderly residents across the region – including two incidents in the Wrexham area over the weekend.

Both incidents took place on Saturday 2nd February, with the first offence taking place in Maes Tyddan, Coedpoeth at around 4pm. A second incident took place in St Mary’s Close, Chirk at 5.50pm also on Saturday.

Police say an elderly woman was also victim to a burglary in Holywell, Flintshire, on January 19th.

No one was harmed, but the thieves did steal money.

NWP Community Safety East, say: “Elderly Neighbours? Help to keep them safe – Look out for unusual vehicles on your street and suspicious persons around their property.

“Report any unusual activity and vehicle details to 101.”

The following three point plan on what to do if someone you don’t know comes to your door, has also been issued by police:

One: If in doubt, keep them out. It sounds simple, but if you don’t let someone in – they will go away. Don’t let them pressure you into opening the door.

Two: Be prepared. Be in control. Think about what to say to doorstep cold callers in advance. Keep a list of key contact numbers near your phone so you can check out legitimate callers. Ask all other unwanted callers to go away.

Three: Call a neighbour or the police. Contact a local relative or nominated neighbour who can help verify a cold caller. If you think someone is a rogue trader call North Wales Police on 101.

To report a distraction burglary or rogue traders who has taken your money and is still in the area, call 999.
