With only a week left to go people across Wrexham are being urged to help celebrate St David’s Day by taking part in the town’s official celebrations.

A special St David’s Day market on Queen’s Square and a parade through the town centre are both being held to celebrate the Welsh patron saint.

The market, which takes place on Saturday 3 March, will open at 10am on Queens Square featuring stalls selling a range of crafts, food and drinks.

Visitors can expect to find local cider, cakes, pies, jams, chutneys and locally made cheeses, including two brand new products being brought to the event by Snowdonia Cheese; a smoked cheddar and a chocolate chip mild cheddar called Purple Passion.

The parade will happen on Thursday 1 March and will commence from Eagles Meadow at 1.30pm sharp, before weaving its way down Smithfield Road, Charles Street, High Street, Hope Street, Regent Street, Egerton Street, Lord Street and Queens Square.

It will finish up in Llywn Isaf where the national anthem will be performed with the official part of the event due to end 2.00pm.

Councillor Rodney Skelland, lead member for Economic Development and Corporate Governance, said: “The annual St David’s Day parade has proved a great success in previous years. It is always good to see so many people lining the streets in honour of Wales’ patron saint.

“We are looking forward to this year’s parade and hope to see as much enthusiastic support as usual, both from Wrexham residents and from those who come to join us from further afield.”

Although anyone is welcome to join the parade from the start at Eagles Meadow, or anywhere along the route, organisers have asked any schools and groups interested in taking part to telephone Wrexham Council’s Assets & Economic Development Department on 01978 292537.

Any stall holders wishing to take a stall at the market on Saturday 3 March are also asked to contact the events team on 01978 292537 as there is still some availability.
