An event showcasing the talents and skills of residents in supported living schemes and people who have previously experienced homelessness, will take place in Wrexham today.

ResFest, which has been organised by and for residents living at Supported Living Schemes managed by Clwyd Alyn Housing Association, will take place at Wrexham Glyndŵr University from 9:30am this morning.

This year’s event focuses on issues surrounding drug and alcohol misuse.

Along with support from outside organisations the residents have organised a wide range of events and activities to contribute to the costs of the event – including innovative projects such as the creative upcycling and selling unwanted items of furniture organised by residents and staff at the Hurst Newton Scheme in Wrexham

The event gives people who have previously experienced homelessness across north east Wales the opportunity to showcase their talents and attend a number of themed workshops.

Andy Roberts, Supported Living Manager with Clwyd Alyn, said: “The annual Summer ResFest event has become a focal point for many of our residents and the success of the day was very much down to the hard work of the residents themselves and the support received from our many sponsors and support agencies.

“Our residents have not always received any recognition for their skills and commitment in the past and ResFest provides a real opportunity to celebrate their talents and build confidence, helping them to set and achieve new goals.”

Louise Blackwell, Community Development Officer for Clwyd Alyn added: “We would like to say a huge thank you to all of the ResFest sponsors, and everyone who supported the fund-raising activities, all of which made a real difference to the success of what was a brilliant event.”

Sponsors and supporters of this year’s ResFest event include: Sure Group; Crest Cooperative; Travis Perkins; MoneySupermarket.Com; Keepmoat; Anwyl Construction; Barber Heath; Ground Control; Integral; Snowdonia Fire Protection; Kingspan; Snowdonia windows; Akzonobel; Lucion; Airbus UK; Evans Halshaw.

“ResFest is very much the residents’ own event and once again this year, their enthusiasm and commitment has been superb and is a real inspiration to others,” added Paul Seymour Corporate Director Resident Services.
