Residents who pay to have their garden waste collected will not have renew their subscription to later this summer.

The introduction of service, which costs £25 per bin per year, was initially delayed last year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

AS a result Wrexham Council extended all subscriptions until August 31, 2021.

Now the local authority is contacting those who pay for the service to inform them that the 2021/22 scheme will run from Monday, August 30, 2021 until Friday, September 2, 2022.

This means that those looking to renew the scheme won’t have to do so until the summer, with Wrexham Council accepting renewals from Monday, June 28.

Reminders will be published nearer the time.

Darren Williams, Chief Officer Environment and Technical, said: “We are pleased to be able to freeze the cost of the service at £25 per green bin per year, which is less than many other authorities in England and Wales.

“Renewals will begin from Monday, June 28, and the best and most convenient way to pay for the service will be online at www.wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste. If this isn’t possible, you will be able to call 01978 298989 to make a card payment.

“However, we must stress again, please don’t attempt to pay for this service until renewals open on June 28. Thanks.”

Residents who renew the service will be issued with a new sticker, which will need to be displayed clearly on your bin lid to ensure collections.

Allow at least 10 working days to receive your new sticker pack from the date you renew.

A spokesperson for Wrexham Council, said: “Last year, we had a number of customers who attempted to pay for the service by sending cash and cheques to us. We must reiterate that we are unable to accept these payments.

“If you aren’t signed up for the current garden waste collection service (2020/21), but would now like us to collect your green bin(s) over spring and into summer, it’s not too late to sign up.

“It costs £25 per bin, with our current service running until August 31, 2021, so you could still get around five months’ worth of collections if you sign up soon.

“You can sign up by visiting www.wrexham.gov.uk/gardenwaste which is the quickest and most convenient way. Alternatively, you can call 01978 298989 although you may experience a wait if you do so.”
