Relaunch of public consultation over plans for new primary school on Nine Acre site
A public consultation over plans to build a primary school on the Nine Acre Field has been relaunched.
The proposed development includes provision for around 315 pupils, along with 45 nursery places, with St Mary’s School announcing via its February newsletter that it would be moving to the site if plans are given the go ahead.
The consultation had launched earlier this year, but was cancelled at the start of April due to the coronavirus pandemic.
Along with a new school, the proposals also include be two football pitches, a forest school, hard play area, staff car park, coach car park and a pupil drop off point. Access to and from the site would be provided via Rhosnesni Lane.
In planning documents released as part of the consultation, the applicants stated that the proposed development is “considered to be compatible with the local area.”
The applicants say: ““The proposal will not cause any detriment to any adjoining land use or neighbours as the proposed development has been carefully designed to overcome any issues of overlooking with the positioning and size of fenestration being carefully considered.
“The playing pitches will generally be used during the weekdays and only during daylight hours. This should not cause any impact upon the amenity of the neighbouring residential dwellings.
“The local area is characterised by two storey dwellings which are set back from the road. The proposed school will be a two storey building which is set back from the roads within a well landscaped site. Careful consideration has been given to ensure that the proposed development integrates into its surroundings.
“It was a key part of the development that development is set back and buffered away from Chester Road. The additional landscaping will also enhance the suburban character of the area which is particularly green.”
However there have been concerns raised by the Nine Acre Campaign Group, who said earlier this year that the development would be “nightmare” for residents in the area.
The consultation, which runs from Monday, 20 July to Sunday, 16 August, will give residents, parents, community groups and other interested parties the chance to have their say.

The feedback will be used to help the council’s education service develop the proposals, before potentially submitting a formal planning application.
Wrexham Council say anyone who has previously responded will have their concerns taken into account as part of this consultation.
The site is currently being partially used by Wrexham Football Club as a training pitch, with proposals they will be moving to the greenfield site by the derelict former Groves school building, with proposals to build a training centre there.
