Video: Huge Crowds Turn Out For Wrexham’s ‘Biggest’ St David’s Day Parade!
Wrexham’s St David’s Day Parade has been branded a huge success after record numbers turned out for this afternoon’s event.
More than 1000 people gathered in the town centre to take part in Wrexham’s St David’s Day celebrations, which included a parade, musical performances from local schools and a rendition of the Welsh National Anthem.
The celebrations began with a parade at 1pm when crowds young and old gathered on Llwyn Isaf to march through the streets of the town.
Led by the Cambria Band, the parade took local schools, members of Wrexham Council, representatives from HMP Berwyn and many more through Lord Street, Regent Street and Hope Street, the High Street and Chester Street before arriving back at Queen’s Square.
The crowds were in high sprits as they marched through the town centre, with local school children waving their Welsh flags and chanting “Dydd Gŵyl Dewi Hapus”.
After the parade crowds returned to Queen’s Square where the Mayor of Wrexham John Pritchard thanked those in attendance for making this year’s event the biggest yet.
The celebrations culminated in a rendition of Calon Lân and the National Anthem.
There was talk of making St David’s Day a bank holiday in the future, so it could be a case of in years to come more people will be able to take part in the event.
