Wrexham County Borough Museum & Archives has again gained official recognition as a quality assured tourist attraction.

Wrexham Museum is situated in one of Wrexham’s landmark buildings. Built as a barracks for the Royal Militia, home to the Denbighshire Constabulary and the local courts the Museum is a great visitor experience for everyone who wants to discover the county borough’s heritage and collections held in the museum and archives.

The last financial year the museum welcomed 47,781 visitors including 16,014 who came to see the Mold Cape exhibition. So far this year the museum has had over 16000 visitors.

Steve Grenter- Heritage Services Manager said, I am delighted with the assessors report which gave Wrexham Museum a healthy score of 93% and praised the museum, our staff and volunteers.

Highlights of the report included: “The wide range of things to do, with interactive exhibitions and displays, touch screen quizzes and a/v presentations, as well as a café and shop make this museum an attraction for all ages’”

“The quality of the experience at the attraction was very good, with a good welcome, a group of well managed young volunteers in their red polo shirts were available to deal with any enquiries from visitors. The many interesting items of local interest gave a real sense of place to the collections, and history was brought to life by the use of multimedia technology.”

“General level of cleanliness were good.”

“In the café there was a good range of fresh and home-made cakes, sandwiches and soup. The food purchased was served without any undue delay and standards of presentation were very good.”

“The shop has a good display of local and Welsh books and items, wholly appropriate to the nature of the attraction and its location, including Wrexham lager themes gifts. This was complimented by a range of children’s toys and souvenirs.”

Staff at the Museum are also keeping their fingers crossed for a double celebration as Wrexham Museum has recently been nominated in the North East Wales –Tourism Awards – Best Visitor Attraction category . The public can vote for the Museum by visiting www.northeastwales.co.uk/awards. The deadline for casting the final votes is 3rd October 2014.
