A former bakery in Wrexham could be revamped and converted into retail space if planning proposals are passed.

An application submitted to Wrexham Council proposes that a former bakery on the High Street in Coedpoeth is converted to a convenience store.

The proposals, if successful would consist of part demolition, external alterations, parking; pavement widening and amended access to the property.

Within the application’s Design and Access Statement it notes: “The existing SPAR convenience store at 34-36 High Street has been a loyal customer but operates from a constrained premises which does not allow a ‘full top’ shopping offer to be provided and results in a cramped and sub-optimal store to the disbenefit of local residents.”

The property was previously occupied by Ecclestons Bakery and Confectioners, however the property has remained vacant since the bakery closed in August 2010.

Overall the layout of the site would remain the same, however there will be a newly created shop front with automatic front doors.

11 car parking spaces, including one disabled space will be provided for the store – along with several bike stands for both customers and staff.

The store would operate between 7am and 11pm throughout the week.

The Planning Application is expected to go before Wrexham’s Planning Committee at a later date.
