Proposals to erect a convenience store on a pub car park have been submitted by Marston’s Estates.

In an application submitted by pub retailers ‘Marston’s’, it is proposed a ‘retail convenience’ store is erected in the car park of the Kings Mills Pub, on Kingsmill Road.

Currently the site is occupied by the public house and a car park consisting of 47 parking spaces, along with associated garden space.

Within the application’s documents it states that the: “Existing site accesses will be reconfigured and car parking provision will be located within the existing parking area. All vehicles will enter and exit the site in forward gear via the new site access, and there is adequate space within the site for access and servicing.”

The food store would create up to 20 jobs for a combination of full time and part time employees

The Design and Access Statement concludes: “Having analysed the design basis and implications of the proposed convenience store it is considered that the proposal will sit comfortably in its surroundings and will improve a site that currently makes a limited contribution to the visual amenity of the surrounding area.

“The proposal will provide a well designed convenience store in an area characterised by residential properties and the adjacent recreational area. Its accessible location, on bus routes and
within walking distance of a significant number of residential properties makes it a sustainable location for retail and service provision.”

If the proposals are accepted it is recommended that the store is open 7am – 11pm throughout the week.

There application is expected to go before Wrexham’s Planning Committee at a later date.
