Wrexham Council with the support from Councillors are proposing to implement a 20mph speed limit area encompassing the communities of Johnstown, Penycae, Ponciau and Rhosllanerchrugog.

The Council say “Implementation of similar schemes in other parts of the Wales has proved successful in lowering speeds to the benefit of local communities, particularly those more vulnerable members of our society. In many of the communities identified, restricted road widths and the lack of footways make these particularly intimidating places for pedestrians and cyclists.”

The Council have said research demonstrates that motorists are more likely to respect lower speed limits, however provide no link to the research.

The Council is now undertaking consultation with residents, businesses, emergency services and other interested parties. You can take part in the consultation online via this address : http://www.surveymonkey.com/s/Proposedareawide20mphspeedlimit

You can view the PDF that contains the routes proposed as being part of the large 20mph zone here on the Council’s website – be warned it is 2.5 megabytes big and is quite clunky!
