Proposals To Convert Offices To Apartments

Existing offices on Brook Street could be converted into four self-contained apartments if a planning application is successful.

Mitre Buildings, which are located between Brook Street and Brewery Place have remained vacant for the past two years.

The buildings were purpose-built as a public house and brewery and the existing brewery chimney still remains.

Each pair of apartments will have its own pedestrian access from Brewery Place from existing doorways. The main entrance doors will have a ramp, which will provide access for wheelchair users.

A total of six parking spaces will also be provided to serve the new apartments.

It is stated that the conversion to residential property will ‘retain the character of the site and the surrounding area will be enhanced by the work.’

Due to the building location near to the flood plain of River Gwenfro, the report states that the ‘lower ground floor of the property will be a non-habitable space and used for storage only.”

This is the second planning application in a number of months to convert an old property into apartments in this area of town. Back in June an application was submitted to demolish the old Scott’s nightclub and replace it with student accommodation.

Signs have been put around the surrounding area asking for residents opinions on the proposals.
