Prison lock-up for charity fully booked after “amazing response” from the public

A ‘North Wales Prison Lock-up’ event for charity has been fully booked after an “amazing response” from the public.

Wales’ leading cancer charity had been looking for brave individuals and teams to spend the evening behind bars at Mold Police Station on Saturday 9th March and raise ‘bail’ to be set free.

Wrexham.com had reported that North Wales Police Chief Constable Carl Foulkes is amongst those taking part in the fundraising event and will get to experience what it’s like for prisoners on the wrong side of the bars.

Chief Constable Foulkes said: “Being on the other side of the cell door will definitely be a new experience for me. I look forward to meeting my fellow prisoners and encourage anyone interested to get involved.

“As well as raising money for a worthwhile cause, you will also have the unique opportunity to experience life behind bars- and will realise why you don’t want to make it a regular occurrence!”

During the event ‘Prisoners’ will have their finger prints and mug shots taken, be handed prison clothing to wear and have all home comforts taken from them, including their mobile phones.

They will be locked up in the cells from 5pm until midnight. However, they may be released early for hitting their fundraising target and for good behaviour.

They will be fed prison microwaved food, be put through their paces through vigorous exercise in the dingy yard and will be questioned by the team at the station for “made-up” charges.

It will be up to the individuals to entertain themselves until their release, however, all participants will be moved around the cells so will get to meet the other prisoners throughout the evening.

However the event has now been fully booked, with plenty of applications submitted from people keen to take part in the experience and help the charity.

A statement posted on the Tenovus Cancer Care website, says: “Sorry, this event is now full.

“We’ve had an amazing response to our shout out for brave souls to face a night in the cells, and we can’t wait to put them through their paces.
