Praise for Wrexham Council’s gritting effort – better than neighbouring authorities!
Images of some of the conditions Wrexham Council’s gritting team faced in some of the rural parts of the county borough, have been released, with lots of praise for the work undertaken over the last few days.
The pictures, which were sent to Wrexham.com by Lead Member for Environment and Transport, Cllr David A Bithell, show the gritting team in the Glyn Ceiriog area overnight / earlier this morning.
Earlier this afternoon Wrexham Council announced that due to drifting snow a decision had been made to temporarily close the B4579 Glyn Ceiriog to Selattyn.
The A525 in Llandelga was also confirmed as being closed this afternoon by North Wales Police due to drifting snow.

Commenting on the gritting operation over the past few days, Cllr Bithell said: “The staff effort has been fantastic over the last few weeks and in particular the last 48 hours and our crews have experienced really difficult driving conditions.
“The department liaise with other agencies and emergency planning if necessary. Our standby officers continually monitor the weather and deploy crews as necessary.
Cllr Bithell added: “In terms of this weekend we have staff on call and additional resources will be deployed if required.
“I must say all our staff have done a sterling job and are a credit to Wrexham Council.”
Over the past 48 hours there has been praise for Wrexham’s gritting team, with many motorists comparing the clearness of the county’s main roads to other local authorities.
My hubby has driven home today from Coleshill in Birmingham. He said the roads were awful right the way up to the Wrexham border. Well done to @wrexhamcbc gritting team @wrexham

Yesterday the contrast between Wrexham and Chester was made:
He difference between @ChesterChron and @wrexham council .. if this road was in wrexham it would of been gritted! A road that leads to a pre-school! Absolutely dangerous. Had to walk down it today with two young children because yesterday my car slid on it. Shocking pic.twitter.com/tQj0h4aJ29

A couple of Councillors have also joined in:
Big thank you to @wrexhamcbc for their ongoing efforts clearing snow from main roads in the Brymbo and Tanyfron area. Lots of positive feedback @davebithell pic.twitter.com/wHXgJUeVyW

Council staff have also been praised, with readers probably seeing us pass on the words from Kelly who asked us to say: “Can you say a huge thank you to the bin collectors who helped us get our car out of the snow this morning near the park. True gents !!”
