Praise For Positive Work Carried Out by Community Pharmacies
Pharmacies across Wrexham and Wales are expanding their services and continuing to play a key role in the delivery of primary health care.
Wrexham’s Assembly Member, Lesley Griffiths recently visited Boots Pharmacy on Eagles Meadow to meet with pharmacists and discover more about the new opportunities for the sector.
The new Choose Pharmacy IT platform being rolled out by the Welsh Government will see pharmacists take responsibility for managing a range of minor ailments.
This means people can see their pharmacist for free treatment instead of making an appointment to see their GP, which means GPs will have more time to deal with people with more complex needs.
After her visit, local AM Lesley Griffiths said: “Community pharmacies provide vital services which can help alleviate pressure on our GPs. Here in Wales we know the advantages offered by a thriving community pharmacy sector – unlike in England, the Welsh Government intends to maintain funding in Wales without cuts.
“Continued funding from Welsh Government has enabled the local health board to become one of the first to roll out the new Choose Pharmacy IT system, which will help fully integrate community pharmacies with GPs and hospitals.”
“At Boots Pharmacy in Eagles Meadow, the longer opening hours mean people can access health care closer to home and as conveniently as possible. It was good to discuss ways in which the system can further improve and I was pleased to hear there have been 30% more flu jabs administered by community pharmacies this year when compared with last year – a clear indicator people are becoming more aware of the wide-range of services on offer.”
