Get the popcorn at the ready as Wrexham is to host its first ever drive-in cinema this February.

Organised by Wrexham Council’s Events Team and Heart North Wales, the Valentine’s themed drive in cinema will take place at the Bangor-on-Dee Racecourse on Sunday 12 February.

To tie in with the Valentine’s theme, two iconic films have been selected for the event – with
Disney’s Beauty & the Beast at 3.00pm followed by the 90’s box office smash Notting Hill at 7.00pm.

Each viewing is limited to 250 cars and it’s expected to be a sell-out, so you are encouraged to buy your tickets in advance!

Courtesy of ADI.TV and FilmBank UK, both films will be projected onto a massive LED screen, with viewers needing to tune their FM car radio into a dedicated frequency to hear the audio. Each film will have an interval, allowing viewers the chance to buy drinks and food along with take part in some interactive text messaging competitions on-screen.

It is hoped the event will be the first of many in Wrexham.

Speaking about the event, Wrexham Council’s Events Manager Amanda Davies said: “We’re all really looking forward to this event. It should be quite a spectacle with a massive 44ft wide LED screen giving a great view of each film, plus there’ll be a free bucket of popcorn for every car along with competitions running before and after each showing.

“If this proves popular – we’ll look to run more of these drive-in movies throughout the year!”

Tickets went on sale this morning and can be purchased from the Wrexham Tourist Information Centre (Queens Square, Wrexham) priced at £15.00 per car (regardless of how many people are in the car). They are available Mon-Fri 10.00am – 4.00pm.

If you can’t call in – you can also book via the phone during the same hours by calling 01978 292015 and they’ll be posted out to you (£1 postage fee).

Buyers will need to know the car registration of the vehicle which they intend to bring to the event upon purchase.
