Detectives are appealing for a woman, believed to be from Wrexham, who may have important information about a serious sexual assault in Shrewsbury to come forward.
They are keen to speak to the witness who had been in the bar area of The Lion and Pheasant hotel shortly before the incident took place.
The victim, a woman in her 20s, reported that she was assaulted in the riverside gardens at Coleham Head, opposite the Gyratory, between about 2am and 2.30am on Sunday 29 July.
She had previously been into The Lion and Pheasant where she arrived at 11.30pm and left around 1.45am.
A man in his 30s was arrested later the same morning in connection with the incident and has since been released on police bail pending further enquiries.
Investigating Officer Detective Constable Mick Everest said he was keen to trace a woman who had witnessed an earlier incident at the bar, which police believe is connected.
“This lady is reported to have gone into the ladies’ toilet sometime between about 11.30pm and 1.30am, when she came across a man and woman in there,” he said.
“It would be memorable to her as she is thought to have made a comment about there being a man in the ladies’ toilet.
“Our enquiries suggest she may be from the Wrexham area and had been with a group of friends.
“She is described as white, in her mid to late 20s, had blonde hair cut in a bob and was wearing a flowery top or dress.
“I would urge this woman to contact me at Oswestry CID as I think she may have useful information that will assist this enquiry. We are also keen to hear from some people who were reportedly sitting on a bench in Coleham Head when the incident happened”.
